Second Echo Ensemble (SEE) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Judith Abell to the newly created role of General Manager. With her extensive experience in architecture, fine arts, public art, and local government arts administration, Judith (or Jude) brings a wealth of diverse expertise to the team. Her appointment marks an important moment for Second Echo Ensemble as we continue to expand our community impact and invest in organisational sustainability.

Jude joins SEE after 8.5 years with the City of Hobart, where she played a pivotal role in arts and cultural projects that have helped shape the city’s dynamic cultural landscape. A long-term member of Hobart’s arts community, she is deeply embedded in the city’s creative sector and is dedicated to using the arts to address complex social issues and drive meaningful change.

Jude’s career trajectory reflects her ability to seamlessly navigate between high-level strategic thinking, master planning, and hands-on implementation. This unique blend of versatility, practical skills, and strong relational abilities makes her the perfect fit to lead Second Echo Ensemble into its next phase of growth.

Her broad background and twenty years experience in design, public art, teaching, arts and design journalism and arts administration provides the perfect foundation for supporting our shared vision of using the arts as a vehicle for creative problem-solving and social good. The Board is excited to collaborate with Jude, strengthening partnerships and ensuring that our growth continues to have a profound impact on Tasmania’s creative community.

As SEE celebrates its 20th year, we remain committed to challenging perceptions and celebrating diversity through powerful, boundary-pushing art. We are dedicated to breaking down the barriers to participation in the arts industry, bringing exceptions, exclusions, outsiders, and gaps in thinking into the open.

Second Echo Ensemble is supported by Creative Australia, the Tasmanian Government and the Tasmanian Department of Social Services.

Simon Wellington and Jen Murnaghan, CoChairs. On behalf of the Second Echo Ensemble Board.
